About This Production:
Part murder mystery, part dark comedy, and full of surprises—Deathtrap keeps audiences guessing from start to finish! A once-successful playwright will do anything to have another hit… even if it means murder. Smart, suspenseful, and wickedly funny, this Broadway thriller is filled with twists that will leave you on the edge of your seat (and laughing nervously all the way home).
Roles:
Sidney Bruhl: Male 45–69 (Ego-driven, charming, manipulative)
Clifford Anderson: Male 20s–30s (Attractive, youthful, cunning)
Myra Bruhl: Female 40–60 (Supportive, sweet, emotionally vulnerable)
Helga ten Dorp: Female 30+ (Eccentric, dramatic, psychic)
Porter Milgrim: Male 30+ (Professional, cautious, rational)
What You'll Learn:
In this audition workshop, participants will gain insight into the creative vision behind the upcoming production and what the director looks for in auditions. Through guided exercises, practical instruction, and performance-focused coaching, students will strengthen their audition technique, storytelling skills, and confidence in the audition room.
Each workshop is tailored to the style and demands of the specific show, offering actors valuable tools they can carry into future auditions—both at the Lyric and beyond!
Meet Your Instructor:
Nancy Jo Humfeld (Director) is recently retired from Howard Payne University where she was the head of the theatre department. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Music Education, a Masters degree in Vocal Performance, and a Masters degree in Theatre from Texas A&M University-Commerce. She has a PhD in Theatre, specializing in musical theatre from Southern Illinois University. She has taught theatre and music at the university level for 34 years and in that time has directed over 100 plays, musicals, and operas. She also continues to perform professionally. Some of her favorite roles are "M’Lynn" in Steel Magnolias, "Reverend Mother" in The Sound of Music, "Aunt Eller" in Oklahoma!, "Sister Amnesia" in Nunsense and Nunsense Jamboree and “Reba” in The Last Night of Ballyhoo. She was named the College/University Educator of the Year by the Texas Educational Theatre Association in 2004, and she is a past Vice President, Secretary, and President/CEO of TETA. Dr. Humfeld is also a founding member of the Lyric Performing Arts Company and has directed 28 productions for LPAC as well as overseeing all other productions. She was named 2011 Woman of the Year by the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce and the HPU Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year in 2012.
